Native Americans in the United States have cultures and traditions that predate the earliest settlers from other nations. The Republican Party fully recognizes the importance of Native Americans having the authority to govern their communities without interference, and deeply appreciates the many Native Americans who have long supported the Republican principles that have improved economic stability and health on tribal lands all while preserving the tribal rights to self-determination.
As Republicans, we fully respect the unique character of Native Americans and welcome their ongoing support for the principles of the Republican Party.
There are also American Indian Republican groups such as Conservative American Indian Republicans, whose website states, "For generations, American Indians have been stereotyped as liberals and Democrats. This is a false stereotype. Many American Indians and tribes are conservative and Republican. Most Indians might consider themselves "common sense conservatives," which I have read described as "liberal in thinking but conservative in values."
