Our environment is fragile and needs to be protected.
The spotted owl and the Endangered Species Act were used to shut down much of the US timber industry and the reduction of grazing animals on BLM land has lead to desertification, destruction of animal life, infestation of pine beetles, standing dead trees and tinder on the forest floor, which all leads to the destruction of our forests.
Organizations like Smoked Bear are helping to educate people so that we can reverse the damage and return the forests to health, which creates living-wage jobs and protects wildlife.
One of the greatest problems facing America is global warming. Allan Savory has found the only viable way to reverse global warming to pre-industrial age levels and he says it's through an increase in grazing animals on our grasslands.
Please enjoy this amazing video about reversing desertification and global warming through increased grazing from the TED series:
“Burning one hectare of grassland gives off more, and more damaging, pollutants than 6,000 cars. And we are burning in Africa, every single year, more than one billion hectares.” - Allan Savory
Desertification of the world's grasslands, Allan Savory suggests, is the immediate cause of poverty, social breakdown, violence, cultural genocide -- and a significent contribution to climate change. In the 1960s, while working in Africa on the interrelated problems of increasing poverty and disappearing wildlife, Savory made a significant breakthrough in understanding the degradation and desertification of grassland ecosystems. After decades of study and collaboration, thousands of managers of land, livestock and wildlife on five continents today follow the methodology he calls "Holistic Management."
As Republicans we are interested in intelligent ways to be better stewards of our environment.
